Belje certifies the GLOBALGAP
Belje has certified the GLOBALGAP safety and quality control system in agricultural production, as the first company in Croatia and among the first companies in Europe.

07.02.2008

On Februaty 7, 2008 and in the presence of numerous agricultural experts, Belje received the GlobalGap certificate, the internationally acknowledged standard based on the principles of good agricultural practices. The GlobalGap system was established in 1997 under the name EurepGap by the British supermarket chains. Later, the most significant European retailers, associations of agricultural producers and representatives of consumers accepted it as a global system.

The GlobalGap system was created primarily to build consumer confidence in food safety and product quality. The goal of GlobalGap is to minimize the negative effects of agriculture on the environment, to ensure a responsible relationship towards the inhabitants and people employed in agriculture, as well as to respect the wellbeing of animals.

GlobalGap has been implemented in four profit centers in Belje (i.e. Agriculture, Heifer breeding, Dairy cattle breeding and Hog breeding), as well as in points of reference in the Feedmill, Seed production and Mill. Internationally acknowledged company Ceres from Happurg in Germany, as the leading certifier of the system, assisted by the company Bureau Veritas from Ljubljana were the certifiers.

It is important to notice that Belje is the only company with the GlobalGap certificate in agricultural production and cattle breeding in such a large scope in Croatia. At the moment  about 10% of companies in the world, mainly in the production of fruit and vegetables, possess this certificate.

In accordance with the GlobalGap standards, the most up-to-date hog breeding farms with a floor heating system have been built in Belje. The most efficient system of manure disposal has been introduced on the farms. High milk quality has been achieved through the controlled feeding of the cattle. Particular attention has been paid to improving the working conditions on the fields.

The preparation for the implementation and harmonization of the GlobalGap standards has included numerous activities in Belje, such as permanent soil, seed and working procedures analyses, as well as quantitative and quality control of final agricultural and cattle breeding products, fodder and  cattle. In the end, the HACCP system of final products quality control in The Food industry Belje is a continuation of this.

Such a system of quality control in agricultural production presents a significant breakthrough in improving all production processes in Belje. By meeting such high standards, Belje has become one of the most progressive international food producers that guaranties its consumers product safety and top quality, based on the “from the field to the table” principle.
