Late harvest in the wine cellars Belje
Wine cellars Belje have finished a successful wine growing season with the late harvest

30.12.2008

Wine cellars Belje is the biggest and the most famous wine producer in Baranja. Belje vineyards stretch over an area of 729ha along the southern slopes of Banovo brdo, the highest peak in Baranja. This year Chardonnay and Graschevina grapes were left on the grapevine on selected parts of the vineyard for the late harvest. Due to very cold weather and low temperatures, on Monday, 29 December 2008 the right conditions existed for the late harvest of Chardonnay and Graschevina on 6 ha of vineyards.

The grapes are picked at the temperature of -9˚ C and are processed in the frozen state. It is expected that the sugar content in the must is going to be higher than 130 Oechsl. Thus, the late harvest 2008 is going to be the highlight of a very successful wine growing season in the wine cellars Belje.

This year’s regular harvest of the white sorts, the most common being the Graschevina and Chardonnay, has already given the supreme wines which have won numerous awards. Novelty in the wine cellars Belje selection this year are two red wines – Merlot and Cabernet sauvignon, which were already at their launch characterized as supreme wines.
